Introduction to Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work with an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach? Collaborative Counseling and Nutrition is so excited to be offering this new service. Jennie Griswold, RDN is giving us all the details! Take it away, Jennie!

What is Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching?

Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching provides strong accountability and support in the day-to-day challenges of recovery. This higher level of support helps to build a skill base for lasting recovery, with the ability to be alongside you between office sessions with your therapist and/or dietitian. Services offered can range from food challenges, shopping/grocery shopping support, 24/7 call and text support, assistance with cooking, and telehealth/office sessions that focus on goal setting, body image improvement, strategies to reduce ED behaviors, and motivational support. A Recovery Coach will help guide you through your recovery journey in a way that is compassionate and understanding on a level others may not have the capacity to provide, simply because we’ve been there ourselves.

Should you work with an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach?

An Eating Disorder Recovery Coach is a great option for someone who has just been discharged from a residential program and could use support navigating post-treatment goals and recovery efforts in everyday life. Those needing extra support between sessions with their dietitian/therapist could also benefit from working with a coach. This type of support could focus on the application of goals set in sessions and isn’t necessarily exclusive to an office setting. Meetings with a coach might be at a restaurant, cooking at your home, shopping for new clothes or groceries, at a park, in social settings, or through text exchanges.

What kind of training do Eating Disorder Recovery Coaches receive?

Our Eating Disorder Recovery Coaches have different educational backgrounds conducive to supporting those in eating disorder recovery, both with a lived experience in their recovery journey that enables them to empathize with their clients’ struggles.

Jennie received her bachelor of science with a dual major in dietetics and nutrition, fitness, and health from Purdue University. She competed as a student-athlete in both cross country and track throughout her time at Purdue. Being a recovered athlete with an eating disorder, along with her background as a registered dietitian, she has a great understanding of those who struggle with compulsive exercise and the consequences that can come with under-fueling as an athlete.

Priscilla received her Master’s degree from the IU School of Social Work and her Undergraduate Psychology degree from the Purdue School of Science. She is a psychotherapist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Priscilla has a strong emphasis on meeting her clients where they are by using an agentic care approach. She has a special interest in partnering with young adults in their recovery journey!
